Your ballot

One person, one vote

Every vote on this site belongs to a real, unique, adult person. Before your first vote you photograph a government-issued ID and take a live selfie. That keeps you signed in on this device for a year. On a new device, or after signing out, you repeat the check and your votes are still here.

What we check

  • A valid driver's license, state ID, or passport
  • That your live selfie matches the photo on it
  • That you are 18 or older and haven't already registered
  • Your state and ZIP, so results can be shown by constituency

What we keep

  • No name, ID number, photo, or document image
  • A one-way, keyed fingerprint that blocks duplicate sign-ups
  • Your state, ZIP, birth year, and document type
  • Your votes — never published individually
  • You can delete all of it from your ballot page

Where do you live?

If your ID shows a U.S. address, we use that instead. Passports carry no address, so passport holders are counted where they say they live.

The check runs on Stripe, our verification partner, and takes about two minutes on a phone or a computer with a camera. When it's done, Stripe is told to delete your photos and details.
